Botanical name: Aloe vera
Aloe is a succulent plant that grows year-round and is resistant to drought. The name aloe comes from the Arabic word alloeh or the Hebrew word halal meaning bitter shiny. Aloe vera plays an important role in traditional Indian medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy.
Chemistry of the plant shows the presence of over 200 different bioactive compounds. Many biological characteristics of Aloe species are due to the inner gel of the leaves.
Aloe Vera helps heal skin wounds caused by burning, skin irritation, cut wounds and insect bites. Its bactericidal properties help reduce itching and reduce skin swellings. Aloe helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and actively repairs the damaged skin cells responsible for the signs of aging. Aloe is a strong detoxifier, an antiseptic and a tonic for the nerves. It also has immunosuppressive and antiviral properties.
