While millet is widely used worldwide, its origins are in Asia and Africa. There is proof that between 10,300 and 8,700 years ago, it was cultivated throughout Asia. Thus, it was prevalent in Asia prior to rice! Indeed, it is believed to be the first dry crop to be grown in East Asia.
