This formulation has evolved from a consideration of the dangers of administering phenylbutazone (Bute) routinely to horses sensitive to its side effects. Traditionally White Willow Bark and Devils Claw were used to manage pain. Guaiacum was traditionally used for Gout and Burdock as a blood cleanser for Rheumatoid processes. Maritime Pine Bark, Rosehips, Elecampane with its Allantoin content , together with Yarrow in a Vinegar base all support and encourage repair.
This formulation may be used safely for both emergencies and in the long term for comfort.
The tonic will need to be given continuously for a minimum of 3 weeks, and can be maintained long term if necessary. Improvements are usually observed within 3-6 weeks on the tonic.

Great product
My older Belgian Warmblood mare has arthtitic issues in her lower hind legs . My farrier was having a problem doing trimming on her hind feet because it hurt her to put all her weight on the hoof not being trimmed. He has noticed a great improvement since I have had her on this product. She is noticeably moving better too. I will recommend this product . So much safer than Bute.

Lamanitis OTTB
Our rescued OTTB Sycamore had come in with laminitis. He was on BHUTE and in a lot of pain. We desperately sought out help and fell upon McDowells Herbal. Being very unexperienced, we felt a bit lost. Cath had such conviction, certainty and faith in the emergency laminitis program including the Allev8 that we felt a huge sense of relief and hope. Within 1 week we could see the difference. It was a miracle. After 3 months on the program, Sycamore was completely out of the woods and racing around like he had never before. Great product
Have been using this for both my horses. One with arthritis and the other with a nasal frontal stature.
The one with arthritis has been galloping around the paddocks where as before he used to just stand around all day.
Have been using this everyday.

Vital Preparation
I have always had Alleve8 on hand in the event my ponies have a laminitic episode. It has proven to be a salvation on many occasions with its valuable blend of herbs.It is imperative that all other aspects of diet are addressed to facilitate maximum favourable outcome from medication.

Good
I have been using Alleviate on several of my horses for a couple of years now ,where there is need for pain relief, but not long term bute usage. I find pretty good results, with just the odd day or two of bute when needed.the two horses are both old ...34 and 31. Two lamanitic ponies have also been on Alleviate ,following the short term course of bute.They are 27 and 20 and all are comfortable enough to still enjoy life.

This product has worked so well to give my horses relief. I have only recently started using it, and am already committed to making sure I have a supply ready in the welfare kit. Essential Product
As I have stated in previous reviews for this product, it is a "must have" in my medications supply kit in the event my ponies suffer an injury or laminitic episode. With it's wealth of valuable herbs, it works wonders together with other good management practices. One of my ponies have benefitted just recently from a maintenance dose administered. Even though it's a larger monetary outlay, I purchase the 5 litre bottle as it is the best value for money in the long term. Highly recommend.
