Oxalates are compounds that bind to calcium and other essential minerals, locking them up in forms that horses cannot absorb. Because calcium is critical for so many vital body functions—bone strength, muscle contraction, nerve signalling, cardiovascular function - this binding process can quickly lead to deficiency. When dietary calcium is not available, the horse’s body pulls calcium from its own skeleton, leading to weakness, pain, and in severe cases, the bone disease known as Bighead.

Whilst we can’t protect our horses from unforeseen reasons for colic, or eliminate the need for a vet, we can do our best to keep our horse’s digestive systems and nervous systems healthy with a whole food, natural diet, and good management practices, to aid in minimising the risk of possible colic.

Big Kev (as he is now fondly known) was grinding his teeth sticking his tongue out a lot and head flicking. I’m very happy to see within weeks a huge improvement. He is no longer grinding at all and barely has his tongue out or head flicking. He is also calm and glowing with health.
